Mark your calendars! Deadline submissions for the 45th DAC are fast approaching, with the first being Thursday, November 1, for panels, special sessions and tutorial proposals. Others soon follow, such as the regular papers and Wild and Crazy Ideas (or WACI) proposal deadline on November 19, followed by the Student Design Contest deadline on December 5. Proposals for Hands-on Tutorials are due December 14, while workshop and collocated event proposals are due February 15.
DAC 2008 offers a whole host of opportunities for everyone to participate. DAC is your opportunity to network, and to introduce your work, your company and yourself to the influencers and the entire electronic design industry. Submit your latest paper, propose a workshop or session with invited speakers, suggest a panel, submit a tutorial, or offer to co-locate your event with DAC. After all, June 9-13 2008 in the Anaheim Convention Center is when and where the electronic design community meets.
If you are an academic researcher looking for industrial collaboration and support, or if you are a graduate student about to enter the job market, you should present your work at DAC. It is a unique venue to present your paper since your audience will be a mix of academic peers and representatives from across the design and design automation industry.
If you are an industrial engineer, researcher or manager, this is your opportunity to position your company as a leader who develops state-of-the-art technologies and products, and/or uses innovative design methodologies and tools. Consider proposing a CEO/CTO panel or a panel with diverse opinions and participants. A tutorial that covers an entire design flow with participants from several companies and/or disciplines may also be of great interest to other DAC attendees.
If you are organizing an event, maximize the exposure of this event and recruit more participants by co-locating your event with DAC. The week of DAC is a blend of exhibitions, paper presentations, panels, tutorials, and smaller special-interest meetings that take advantage of the fact that we are all going to be in Anaheim.
DAC is inviting submissions in all areas of electronic design, from system design to layout and from design techniques and methodologies to design automation tools. In 2008, the DAC program will put special emphasis on design methodologies, embedded system and wireless design, verification, multicore, and low power.
Knowledge, expertise, and experience in design methodologies are hard to achieve and rarely can be taught in school. What works and what does not work and, in particular, how to overcome today’s design challenges with yesterday’s tools, constitute the art of design methodologies.
DAC participants are eager to learn from the people who drive the front line of design. To meet time-to-market pressures and performance constraints, most design teams need to take into account system-level tradeoffs and integration challenges from the start of the project.
The verification gap is still growing, despite focused research and new tool offerings, such as formal verification. Multicore designs are presenting two big challenges. The first is how to use multicore machines to accelerate the performance of design automation tools that execute on them. The second is how to design efficient and correct multicore products.
Low power consumption continues to be one of the most desirable feature of new mobile and non-mobile devices, and one most often demanded by end-users. The demand for wireless is growing still as we all demand to be connected … anywhere any time.
These are just a few of the many challenges that the design automation community faces today and DAC attendees come to hear from people like you who have tackled and solved these challenges.
