Design Automation Conference Celebrates 60 Years of Innovation, as Attendance Soars Past Expectations

Attendees pack keynotes, technical sessions and receptions at industry’s premier event; “DAC is Back”

San Francisco, CA. – August 8, 2023 – Design Automation Conference, the industry’s premier event dedicated to the design and design automation of electronic circuits and systems, roared back from the two-year pandemic shadow to robust attendee engagement and buzz, reaffirming its status as the most influential event in electronics.

“DAC is back,” one enthusiastic attendee said during the event’s 60th celebration party, as he squeezed through the packed reception area filming the crowd on his phone.

The 60th DAC attracted attendees from academia, research, government, and industry from over 55 countries. The conference is recognized as the industry’s signature event, attracting the entire system design and development ecosystem, with a compelling combination of the technically strong leading research conference and industry exhibitors.

The 60th DAC, held July 9 -13 at Moscone West in San Francisco, saw an increase of submissions to both its research and engineering tracks, indicative of the recent acceleration of electronics innovation around the world.

Attendees took advantage of the robust and timely program, which included an expanded program of  artificial intelligence (AI) sessions along with the traditional security, autonomous systems, IP, Embedded Systems and EDA topics. The DAC Pavilion and the new Transformative Technology Theater was a hive of activity for three days, highlighted by sessions on AI, Cloud based design, financial analyst reviews, Poster Gladiator competitors and much more.  Thanks to EE Times, AspenCore and Keysight, attendees were able to enjoy an evening of networking, food and dancing on Tuesday night at the 60th DAC Celebration party.

“For 60 years, DAC has been a vital event for industry innovators and academic researchers,” stated Joerg Henkel, 60th DAC General Chair. “It was clear from the increase in submissions and attendee registration that DAC has recovered after the pandemic and there is a great benefit to face-to-face events for attendees to improve their knowledge base and network with peers. Innovation in the electronic design ecosystem begins at DAC.”

Henkel estimated attendance was at least 25 percent higher than organizers anticipated.

DAC returns to San Francisco in June 23 - 27, 2024.  The call for papers and presentations will open October 1, 2023.

About DAC

The Design Automation Conference (DAC) is recognized as the premier event for the design of electronic circuits and systems, and for electronic design automation (EDA) and silicon solutions. A diverse worldwide community representing more than 1,000 organizations attends each year, represented by system designers and architects, logic and circuit designers, validation engineers, CAD managers, senior managers and executives to researchers and academicians from leading universities. Close to 60 technical sessions selected by a committee of electronic design experts offer information on recent developments and trends, management practices and new products, methodologies and technologies. A highlight of DAC is its exhibition and suite area with approximately 175 of the leading and emerging EDA, silicon, intellectual property (IP) and design services providers.  The conference is sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Design Automation (ACM SIGDA), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer’s Council on Electronic Design Automation (IEEE CEDA).
