Welcome to the first Hybrid DAC! So, what is it?
This year we are experiencing many first with respect to planning the 58th Design Automation Conference. It’s the first DAC to be rescheduled from its normal summer schedule to December. It’s the first DAC to co-locate with both the RISC-V Summit and SEMICON West. And it is the first DAC to ever go hybrid with both a live and virtual component.
For this year’s Hybrid DAC, we incorporated many lessons learned from last year’s purely virtual DAC. The first lesson learned was that it is not possible to recreate the full experience of a live conference in a virtual world. Indeed, conferences such as DAC attract a global audience, and accommodating multiple time zones must be carefully factored into the plan. In addition, not every activity at a live conference translates into a good virtual experience. So, we learned the importance of providing a good digital journey through a conference by focusing on high-quality technical content.
Before I explain Hybrid DAC, let’s first step back and explore what is included in the technical program for the live event, which consists of two main focused areas: research and industry (as shown below). A Full Conference registration pass enables access to both the research and industry focused content. While a Design, IP, and Embedded Systems Track registration pass enables access to only the industry focused content.
So, what is Hybrid DAC? For this year’s Hybrid DAC, we have decided to focus only on the technical program and not include the exhibition. Drawing from the lessons learned from last year’s virtual DAC, we decided that Hybrid DAC would consist of a subset of high-value content drawn from the both the research and industry focused technical program.
The virtual component of Hybrid DAC consists of over 38 hours of on-demand high-quality technical content, which includes:
- 4 Keynote Speakers
- 3 SkyTalks (Short Keynotes)
- 3 Pavilion TechTalks
- 2 Industry Analysis Reviews
- 32 Research Invited Talks
- 4 Research Best Paper Talks
- 4 Designer, IP, Embedded Systems Track Best Paper Talks
- 4 Training Day Sessions
The live component of DAC will be held at Moscone West in San Francisco on December 5-9, 2021, while virtual component of Hybrid DAC will be available on demand starting on December 7th and running through December 10th. A Full Conference registration pass will include access to Hybrid DAC. In addition, a Hybrid DAC only pass will be available during registration.
To view specific content contain in the virtual component of Hybrid DAC, visit the online program and select the “Included in Virtual Program” viewing option.
Mark your calendars! And check out the various registration options, which will open on September 7th.
